Black Sand Publishing Inc (BSP) in partnership with Hankyu Hanshin Department Stores Inc (Hankyu) and the State of hawaii / Dept of Business, Economic Development adn Tourism, (DBEDT) are pleased to announce a Call For Artists (CFA) opportunity. This CFA is an online, open-competition opportunity to allow Hawai'i artists to apply to have their art curated, represented, and sold at the Hankyu Umeda Hawaii Fair 2020, occurring this summer (July 8-20) in Osaka, Japan.

MULTIPLE ARTIST AWARDS

There are multiple awards being offered to selected Artists, as the goal of this program is to reach and support more of the local art community, and also share a broader variety of Hawai'i art with Japan.

  • Grand Prize (up to 4 awarded) – free round trip to Osaka (air & hotel); 
    • Artists will attend and participate in Fair activities, interviews, photos, functions, and other marketing
  • Art Licensing (up to 20 awarded) – Artists selected to have their art licensed by BSP for display and sale as fine art prints at Hankyu’s new “Affordable Art Prints” program;
  • Original Art Sales (up to 5 awarded) – Artists will have their original art displayed and sold at the Hankyu Hawaii Fair by BSP;

SUBMISSION STEPS

  1. Read the Overview page carefully
  2. Read the Terms & Conditions page carefully
  3. Register   (use the "Register" button below OR the "Register & Apply" button at the top of this page)
  4. Provide background details (filling out all required fields in your user profile), then Add an "Application"
  5. Submit up to "7" images that adhere to the Theme
  6. Save your Application (you will receive an email confirmation)
  7. Revise your Application as needed, until the Deadline
  8. There is a one-time submission fee of $20.



Notes:

1 - the upper left menu icon will allow you to navigate the Call pages;
the upper right menu icon will allow you to log in to submit or edit.

2 - max size for each submitted file is less than 4Mb,
and at least 540 pixels but no more than 4800 pixels on a side

3 - submitted art should have been created in the last 2 years or more recently

4 - If you use a Mac and Safari browser and cannot log on, please try the Chrome browser,

The Hankyu Umeda Hawaii Fair has been held annually since 2014, providing international exposure and sales for Hawai'i art/fashion/food businesses. The Hawaii Fair is one of the largest out-of-state Hawai'i fairs, and attracts over 215,000 Japanese consumers every year and sells food, apparel, gifts and jewelry items made in Hawaii. Hankyu Umeda carries name brand products and is regarded as one of the higher quality department stores in Japan. The Fair is organized annually by Hankyu Umeda, with support from DBEDT through its Hawai?i State Trade Expansion Program (HiSTEP). This program provides training seminars, direct financial assistance and organizes Hawai?i Pavilions at Mainland and overseas venues.

The theme of this art Call is “What I Love About Hawaii”. This can be defined by the Artist as what you love most about Hawaii – people, physical beauty (waves, beaches, ocean, landscape), or more abstract emotional and spiritual connections. Submitted art must show a relationship to this theme, and support the concept of promoting Hawaii’s natural beauty and tropical lifestyle.
